Episode 61
The Tower's Last Light
In a final showdown with a Dark Agent, the Soul Survivors determine the fate of the Espial Beacon – and wrestle with the inevitable path before them.
Recap
The fight with Grazadok, the frost-goliath vampire and Dark Agent, resumed in the observatory of the Espial Beacon. Empowered by the Beacon’s psionic energy, he unleashed psychic pulses that staggered the party – stunning Anton and Gemma while his corrupted greataxe tore viciously into Willa’s werewyvern form. He mocked her heritage, tasting her blood as he struck. Zypheros stepped in with protective abjurations, warding Gemma from the vampire’s necrotic magic, while Anton pushed forward with defiant blows and a riposte that cut through Grazadok’s rage. The battlefield shifted constantly as Grazadok used legendary maneuvers to reposition, retaliate, and hammer his enemies with psionic force.
Despite the party’s efforts, their foe’s fury seemed endless. Willa’s crimson-empowered strikes landed but were dulled by his raging resilience. Anton endured heavy punishment but steadied his companions with words of inspiration. At their lowest moment, Gemma erupted into her radiant soul form, wings of fire and light unfurling in desperation. Channeling all of her power into a final spell, she pointed at Grazadok and unleashed Disintegrate. The blast struck true, his body igniting in radiant fire before crumbling to ash. His death came with a final psychic backlash, his brain bursting with psionic force that injured Anton in his last act of vengeance. The chamber fell silent – the vampire was destroyed at last.
When the dust settled, the survivors turned their attention to the Beacon itself. The towering crystal pulsed ominously, twin levers at its base hinting at some form of control. The group debated what to do. Zypheros, ever curious and tempted by the Beacon’s psionic power, expressed interest in attuning to it, but Gemma sensed his eagerness was dangerous. Instead, she chose to shoulder the responsibility herself, reasoning that this was what her late parents would have wanted. As the others took a short rest, she attuned to the Beacon. Though she felt its immense power, Gemma also recognized its danger. She used it to search the locations for Sovemil, Raz’sik, Willa’s father – and even Zypheros’s lost wife. The Soul Survivors pulled the Beacon’s levers and poured their strength into an act of destruction, severing its link to the Empire and finally snuffing out its light.
Weary but victorious, the group left the ruined Broken Tower behind and returned to Skyhaven. While Zypheros gathered the Council of Elders, the adventurers visited the Silver Spirit Inn. They gathered around a table to eat, drink, and recover. Anton asked Veyla if Gale was within her tavern, creating an awkward but hilarious tension amongst the group. They reflected on their close brush with death, Raz’sik’s potential goals, and the strange psionic forces that continue to shape their journey. For now, they shared food, stories, and fellowship, knowing the world outside still turned toward darker days, but the Beacon’s light had been extinguished.
