Episode 4
Insidious Infiltrations
After clearing the Crimson Knuckles’ hideout and discovering an enigmatic member, the adventurers infiltrate the Stonewall Manor’s cellar and begin to uncover its secrets.
Recap
Our eclectic group of adventurers entered the once-abandoned tower outside of the Maple Crossroads, now claimed by the Crimson Knuckles gang. Once inside, they found the stairway to other levels, but it all collapsed in on itself, leaving only the first story intact. Finding the rooms to be filled with dirty clothing and a makeshift living area, lit by burning torches, the group was attacked by more bandits.
Making their way around the circular tower, the party reached a set of double doors, which flung open upon their approach. An androgynous elf in red clothing spoke of the Hag Mother and fired an eldritch blast toward the closest adventurer, which happened to be Anton. However, as the party closed in on the warlock, they teleported away and out of sight.
Searching the room, Raz'sik found a locked chest, which he attempted to unlock with his thieves' tools. He successfully did so but was pricked by a poisonous needle, which left him paralyzed and poisoned. Thankfully, Sovemil was with them, and he cast Lesser Restoration on the Pangenan to remove the paralysis. Inside the chest, several art objects, coins, and clothing were discovered – one of which was a statuette of an old hag with the words "Hag Mother'' carved into its base.
Having apparently cleared the tower base of all gang members, the adventurers headed back into town to rest, eat, and discuss their plans for the evening at the Imperial Inn. Once the sun set, the group made their way to the Stonewall Manor, sneaking their way out of sight from any imperial guards surrounding the manor. Towards the back of the property, at an opportune moment, they snuck to the cellar door, Raz'sik picked the lock, and the party entered.
Inside, surrounded by odd and unsettling decor, was a white cat resting upon an old, damaged couch. After Raz'sik distracted it with a piece of string from his pack, Anton felt a cold draft emanate from underneath one of the wooden doors. Raz'sik lit his hooded lantern and entered the dark room. Around the corner, a pale blue ghost appeared before them. Claiming to be Maeve Stonewall, she confessed she was murdered by her own sister, Malkyn, the sole owner of the property now. She asked for the adventurers to stop Malkyn's horrible experiments upon the elves in the cellar, so that she could be free. Quick to temper and unwilling to speak exact details, she disappeared.
Moving toward a hallway to the south, Willa opened a door to a larger, furnished room with a fireplace, along with three men and Malkyn herself sitting at a table. They stood as the group entered, and Malkyn ordered the men to kill the intruders immediately. She then slipped out a door nearby and vanished from sight. Her hired thugs moved in for the kill, at one point surrounding Raz'sik as he dove for cover. Gemma attempted to use her magic to attack, but her wild, untrained powers transformed her into a potted plant. Willa used her maul to smash, Sovemil used his trident to pierce, and Anton used his blades to slash. By the time only one remained, Gemma had transformed back to her normal form and unleashed a powerful bolt of fire toward his head, which instantly caught ablaze, leaving his skin boiling and melted as he collapsed onto the carpeted floor.
