Episode 14
Un-Warrantied Behavior
Willa reveals a secret and Raz’sik makes a decision. The party prepares for their journey on the road.
Recap
While traveling through the Rhorsia Forest back to town after confronting the green hag coven, Sovemil brought up Willa’s strange magic and asked where it came from – and what it meant within the Empire. The dragonborn explained she’d been introduced to her abilities by her family, who’ve secretly passed it down for generations. Using a form of ancient blood magic, they’re able to protect their farmlands and the people around them from the monsters that lurk within the nearby forest.
Willa also unveiled her long-held secret. As her joints snapped and her back arched, she sprouted wings and transformed into a large, purple wyvern – a form of lycanthropy none had ever seen nor heard of before. She assured them all she had it under control and trusted them with her secret.
Transforming back to her normal form, the party continued to Oaktown, reaching it by nightfall. Avoiding the Man in the Yellow Cloak, they went straight to the Twin Crows Inn for rooms and refreshment. Anton and Sovemil shared a couple of uncomfortable drinks, and the sea elf tried beef for the first time. Though it was tough and overcooked, Sovemil admitted to wanting to try a better cut another time.
In the middle of the night, Raz’sik awoke to the sound of a psychic dagger igniting against his throat. The Man in the Yellow Cloak, the Pangenan agent Raz had been avoiding, stood over him, threatening Raz to turn over the orb lest he meet the consequences of their faction. Raz convinced him to give the group until dawn to turn it over, and the yellow cloaked-man exited through the open window.
Raz’sik rushed to wake up his friends and told them of the situation. He continued to debate whether or not they should keep the orb, simultaneously wanting Gemma to keep it while also not wanting to betray his people. In the end, Gemma decided to give up the magic orb, as it seemed the safer option for them all. At dawn, they met the Man in the Yellow Cloak on the outskirts of town and handed over the item. He thanked them psychically and revealed his name to be Balam. He then left peacefully upon his horse and headed south to New Domaar.
Before taking to the road once more, the group stocked up on supplies, confronted the kid and his father at Langwood Potions for the fake “potion of courage,” and purchased horses for the road – heading into the shaded wood once again.
